Analyse
You can’t make the best choices if you don’t have the best information. HAC’s approach avoids ‘analysis paralysis’, but ensures you have the right information to make the decisions that will help you meet your objectives.
Energy and Carbon Management
HAC offers a range of services that will help you to understand your energy and carbon profile, and apply that understanding to identify and implement cost-effective opportunities. We also help you to understand the economic, market and institutional barriers that prevent organisations from making economically efficient resource allocation decisions.
HAC backs the accuracy and practicality of our recommendations by offering fee structures that mean we don’t get paid until you realise the identified savings.
Examples of our energy and carbon management services include:
Greenhouse Gas Inventories
A greenhouse inventory is an essential first step in understanding your organisation’s emissions profile. HAC can undertake or assist your organisation to meet its National greenhouse And Energy Reporting System (NGERS), or for non-NGERS entities, undertake inventories consistent with ISO14064.1 and ISO14064.2.
Greenhouse Inventory Assurance and Verification
Third party verification of your greenhouse accounts gives you and your stakeholders comfort that your claimed carbon footprint is accurate.
So long as we didn’t do your greenhouse inventory, HAC is perfectly placed to provide assurance and verification services for your greenhouse accounts, in conjunction with our trusted accounting and environmental auditing partners.
Our assurance and verification services are consistent with ISO14064.3, and the International Standard for Assurance Engagements 3000.
Level 1, 2 and 3 Energy Audits
Consistent with AS NZ3598-2000. Energy audits enable your organisation to identify what areas of your operations use the most energy, and whether savings can be made. HAC can estimate financial costs and savings and greenhouse gas savings and provide extra analysis which will enable you to make investment decisions based on your internal investment criteria.Marginal Abatement Cost Curves
While absolute cost is an important investment consideration, the marginal cost per tonne of abatement lets you know how much extra each option will cost for every additional tonne of greenhouse gas saved. MACCs help organisations to plan and prioritise abatement opportunities.Net Present Value/ Discounted Cash Flow Analysis
HAC can undertake, or assist with, standard investment analysis based on your organisation’s internal investment criteria, or a series of transparent assumptions. HAC always provides the underlying spreadsheets when undertaking analyses so that clients can update the anlaysis as assumptions change.Multi-Criteria Analysis
Many decision-makers want take more than just financial considerations into account when making sustainability investments. Criteria such as greenhouse abatement and social impacts are also important. HAC’s proprietary MCA process guides decision-makers through identifying investment options, identify and weighting assessment criteria and analysing outcomes, enabling prioritisation of investment choices.Behaviour Change Programs.
Well designed and thoughtfully implemented behaviour change programs can tap into your staff and stakeholder’s ideas and support for sustainability. By involving people across the spectrum of your organisation, HAC’s ‘bottom-up’ approach to behaviour change programs create lasting and real changes in energy use.Energy Efficiency Opportunities
The HAC team has successfully led a range of companies through the EEO stages, covering all Key Elements.Technology Assessment
Technology assessment is a critical component of efficient resource management, leading to reduced energy expenditure and carbon exposure. The HAC team has substantial experience in technology assessment across a range of processes and sectors. Examples include:
- Lighting – HAC has assessed and advised on retrofitting more efficient lighting options for museums, TAFEs and supermarkets.
- Alternative fuels - In addition to designing, managing and implementing Perth’s Hydrogen Fuel Bus Trials prior the inception of HAC, HAC’s Directors have provided technical advice to the (former) Western Australian Department for Planning and Infrastructure on transport fuel cells, to the Victorian Department of Transport on alternative fuels for public buses and to the Public Transport Authority on Compressed Natural Gas for buses.
- Fuel Cells – HAC has provided advice to Raytheon Australia on the potential use of fuel cells in Defence applications.
- Minerals processing – Energy efficiency techniques and technologies for processing and fleet.
- Solar technologies – HAC developed the business case for large scale solar thermal application for a Western Australian mine site to include in its REDP Grant application (this grant program was discontinued prior to assessment of applications).
